Take a look behind the scenes at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey for our first Community Open Day - Sat 6 July 2019
Local people are invited to St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, on Saturday 6 July from 10am-3pm for its inaugural Community Open Day.
The Open Day is for everyone in the community - patients, families, carers, schools, local businesses, stakeholders and partners - for a celebratory, fun, engaging and interactive day to help local people feel part of the Trust.
There’ll be a great range of activities throughout the day for all ages, including interactive stands and demonstrations, theatre tours and health and wellbeing advice. Front-line clinical colleagues will be on hand to share their knowledge and expertise. There will be food, drink, games, prizes and entertainment as well as visits by emergency service partners Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue and SECAmb.
Chief Executive Suzanne Rankin said: ‘I am delighted to throw open the doors at St Peter’s to invite local people to see behind the scenes and meet some of my enthusiastic colleagues who are passionate about showcasing their services. We’ll also be sharing our exciting investment plans to improve the hospitals and services we provide, including major improvements to our urgent and emergency services at St Peters Hospital, car parking and onsite catering and retail facilities.’
Interactive stands and demonstrations
Clinicians from more than 20 different fields from physiotherapy to pharmacy and from maternity through to bariatric surgery will be on hand to tell visitors about their services and what goes on behind the scenes. We’ll also be joined by our Membership, Patient Advice and Liaison Service and Fundraising teams.
Visitors can take a look behind the ‘closed doors’ of a working operating theatre and have the opportunity to try their hand at various clinical skills using the training mannequins.
Health and wellbeing advice
Doctors, nurses and other health professionals will be on hand to offer advice and information – chat to our Alcohol Liaison Nurse about safe drinking, audiology team about hearing impairment or visit the physiotherapy gym for exercise advice.
Careers and recruitment
People considering a career in the NHS or a specific job at the Trust, can chat directly with those working on the front-line as they go around the stands and also speak to the friendly recruitment and careers team about the options available and qualifications and skills needed.
Activities for children
There’ll be lots of fun activities for children and young people including a quiz and trail, a design competition and much more. There will be plenty to keep the whole family entertained.
Food, drink, and car parking
There’ll be free car parking in the main Outpatients’ car park, free refreshments and a paid for BBQ and Ice Cream van available.
