About the Department

We provide a 24 hour Accident and Emergency Service at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey. This covers all major specialties and includes 24 hour cardio-pulmonary and major trauma resuscitation. The Emergency Department Lead Consultant is Mr Sriram Thillainayagam.

The department has its own x-ray facilities, a counselling service, trauma team, and a dedicated paediatric A&E service.

COVID-19 Visiting Restrictions

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, visitors are not permitted in the Adult Emergency Department unless in exceptional circumstances agreed by the Senior Charge Nurse.

Ashford Walk-in Centre

Please note that the service at St Peter's is for emergency treatment only. There is no A&E on our sister site at Ashford Hospital.

There is a walk-in centre at Ashford that is dedicated to non-urgent care and treatment.

Coming into Hospital as an Emergency Patient

Please read our short guide to using our A&E services.

We encourage all patients to Choose Well in relation to their appropriate care. Hospital services are usually busy and there may be a more suitable treatment pathway for you. Choosing well helps us treat patients faster and takes pressure off key clinical areas.

We appreciate that patients and relatives may be in a heightened emotional state when visiting our emergency department. Please respect the safety and security of our staff and the other patients in the hospital.

Location

The A&E department is located in the centre of the St Peter's site. It is noticeable by its distinct orange bricks and "turret" roofing.

You can also follow the road markings for ambulances from the main entrance but please note there is limited parking (to the side of the Rowley Bristow unit) and do not stay in front of the building as it may block access.

Waiting Times

There is a national NHS target to see all patients within 4 hours of admission. Patients will be triaged on attendance to be assessed for clinical urgency.

Facilities

A vending machine, toilets, phone, and TV are available in the unit. The department is open 24 hours a day but the rest of the hospital facilities may be closed after office hours. Public transport is limited before 7am and after 7pm.
